What you will need:
Windows: Windows 7 or higher with 6+ GB of RAM.
-or- Mac: Mac OSI 10.9 or higher with 6+ GB of RAM
High speed internet with a minimum of 10 MBs download speed.
It is strongly recommended to use Google Chrome or Firefox for the best experience. Internet Explore and Edge will work at a reduced functionally, and with less stability. For Mac users, you are required to use Google Chrome or Firefox, the built in browser (Safari) does not support Ultra.
Find your way around sessions
Imagine walking into a room that was perfectly outfitted for collaboration. The amount of tools to engage and capture are potentially endless. Like any good classroom or studio space, we must be organized.
We’ve organized everything into three convenient areas: a media space, the Session menu, and a Collaborate panel.
The media space in Collaborate is where the content of the session is displayed. The share content is automatically the main focus of your screen. The picture-in-picture shows you who is speaking.
Select the picture-in-picture window to switch your main focus. Your main screen becomes the picture-in-picture and the picture-in-picture becomes the main screen.
We’ve maximized the size of this space to create an inherent full-screen experience at any screen size.
Tools that appear in the media space relate directly to what is happening in the session at that moment. You know immediately what you can do.
The Session menu opens a collection of high level session actions and information. Open it using the Session menu button at the top left of the screen.
Tools and features you use only once or twice during a session are conveniently grouped here.
- Find details about the session.
- Connect your phone for audio.
- Get help or report an issue.
- Take tutorials that show you how to use Collaborate.
The Collaborate panel takes your session experience to the next level. You now have a single space to go to engage other attendees with all the great collaborate tools.
- Chat with everyone in the session or privately with other moderators.
- View attendees and their roles.
- Moderators and presenters can share content or start polling.
- Set your personal settings.
Get set up to use your audio and video
You must complete audio and video set up at least once before you can use them.
Don’t want to set it up right away? No problem. You can complete the set up at any time.
After you are set up, select the microphone and video camera icons any time during a meeting to turn them on or off.
Change your status
Change your status to away or let others know how you feel about something said or shared in the session.
From the main stage, select the Set Status and Feedback icon associated with your avatar.
Feedbacks appear with a user’s avatar on the main stage, in the Attendees panel, and in Chat. After 30 seconds the feedback disappears.
The Away status stays until you return and select I’m back!
A summary of the feedback selected appears under the panel heading. It shows the current feedback with a count of attendees using it.
You can sort the attendees by feedback in the Attendees panel. For example, if you want to know who is happy about what was said, select Happy under the Attendees heading. Only those who are happy appear.
Note: For the best classroom experience, it is recommended that participants access the classroom from a computer. Users accessing the class on a mobile device will not have all of the functionally as desktop users.
For those planning to access an Alliance LIVE! class on a mobile device, i.e. cell phone, iPad or tablet you need to first download the Blackboard App for Ultra, which looks like the icon to the right. This is a different app than the one used on the previous blackboard platform.
Download the Blackboard App as you would any other app on your device.
Search for ‘Blackboard’ and select the App as shown above and install the app on your mobile device. The app is free to download. Once installed on your device, the app icon appears on your device as does any other app.
Once the app is installed, there is no need to open it. Return to the email you received with the classroom link and click on it. A webpage will open with the two icons, select the Blackboard icon with the pencil. You may be asked to verify you want to open the link with the Blackboard app, click Open. Finally type your name and click “Join Session”.
Note: To save on cellular data usage, it is strongly recommended you use your WiFi connection. You should also have your charger plugged-in as the streaming data from blackboard will drain your battery quickly. Getting started with Alliance Virtual Instructor Led Training
Alliance VILT features live instructor-led training that is delivered on the “Blackboard Collaborate” platform.
All you need to participate is a computer with broadband Internet access and a headset so that you can communicate via VoIP with the instructor and other participants.
In order to make sure that you have a smooth start with Alliance VILT training, it is very important to make sure you have the required configuration. Please follow these steps to check your computer setup and internet connection.
